COLLEGE OF PHYSIOTHERAPY

The College of Physiotherapy of Devan Hospital and B. K Roy Research Centre commenced in 2006, to train students in Bachelor of Physiotherapy ( BPT ) course and is recognized by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences .

This course is of four & half years duration. It includes Theoretical classes as stipulated by the University & practical classes are held in Physiotherapy section of the Department of Physical Medicine and other various departments of the Hospital. After successful completion of the course, six months’ internship is mandatory.

After qualifying, a Physiotherapist may take up a position locally or nationally, either in government or private hospitals or may practise independently. Physiotherapists can also qualify for employment abroad. They may also choose to pursue a teaching career, research, health-care management or sports medicine.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

Candidates should have passed Higher Secondary Examination (10+ 2) with Physics, Chemistry & Biology.

Selection of the candidates shall be from the merit list through West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (J.E.N.P.A.R.H). The academic year commences from 1st September every year.

OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE

a. The objective of the Physiotherapy course, which is complementary to neurology, orthopaedics, respiratory medicine and to help the student to be familiar with a wide range of ailments.

b. To acquire adequate knowledge of basic medical sciences and to develop skills and techniques of therapeutic exercises (including use of various types of equipments) and physiotherapeutic management & to figure out for themselves the course of treatment for various medical and surgical conditions of patients.

c. To acquire skills in management, research, teaching as well as to guide patients by counselling them.

d. To acquire proper attitude for compassion and concern for patients and welfare of physically challenged in the community.

e. To inculcate moral and ethical values with regard to their profession.
