Dialysis Unit

The department of nephrology is dedicated to the understanding of kidney diseases, their development, progression, treatment and prevention. The department’s mission is to provide outstanding cutting edge clinical care and to pursue extensive basic and clinical research and training program. The department is filled with people passionate in their academic pursuit.

The centre for dialysis employs a multidisciplinary team of nephrologists, nurses, social workers, dieticians and technician to evaluate optimal outcome for dialysis patients. Innovative use of the latest technologies allows the department to provide highest quality dialysis care that is accessible and comfortable with significantly better outcome. The department has state of art volumetric controlled hemodialysis machines and is manned by highly skilled technical and nursing staff. The latest reverse osmosis water plant in the dialysis unit helps attain high quality water. This is one of the few units in West Bengal where endotoxin tests are done regularly. To help a patient feel more at home during dialysis, every dialysis station has a sophisticated audio/visual system that lets a patient watch TV program of his own choice.

The centre for nephrology is a major participant in intensive care by providing critical care nephrology care to ICU patients with acute renal failure, volume disturbances or electrolyte and acid base disorder. There is facility to dialyze critically ill patients without shifting them to the main Dialysis unit.

The dialysis centre works closely with other specialties addressing patient kidney failure prior to any surgery or cardiovascular procedures like Coronary angiogram, angioplasty and taking appropriate steps to ensure the best possible outcome. The day to day activity includes more than 400 hemodialysis, CAPD’s, 10 -15 SLEDDs and 25-30 temporary /permanent vascular access placements every week
